Mini Update Release: Adding Items, Subscribing to Comments, and Positions Drop-Down Box.

Hey everyone! We just wanted to send out a quick blog post about some new mini-updates that we’re releasing today! Hope you enjoy them- we anticipate that you will!

Adding Items:

Now you can add an item to anywhere in your plan! You’ll see the plus symbol throughout the items already added, and to add an item in between certain items, just click on that plus.

Subscribing to Comments:

Anyone desiring to get emails notifying them of new comments on an item can now subscribe topicture-4 receive those emails! When you click on the bubble of the item comment, you’ll see the option at the top to subscribe to receive emails for one of the three: this item specifically, this plan, or the whole service in general (all plans/items that would be commented on within that service).

Positions Drop-Down Box:

This is a minor change, but we thought we’d notify you of it anyway: When you are adding or editing a person’s position, you will see the drop-down box with all positions show up. This is just a small change but we wanted to notify you of it.

Enjoy!

God bless you for the new way to add items. This is going to save a bunch of time. THANK YOU!!!

Really like the change. Makes adding things much easier. I was wondering if there is a way to email certain people when the order of the service is changed in any way (i.e. changing songs or removing songs, etc.). It would be so helpful to know if something has changed without having to hunt for changes. Thanks so much for your consideration.

Thanks so much for these changes!!!

Cool, that makes it easier adding items, how about song?

@Donah The issue is figuring out when to send these notifications without spamming people, if we send too many notifications people will ignore them and then they are useless. We do have ideas on how to do this and it is on our list of things to do.

@Jeff You can, just click the “+” and then click “song”

You guys just keep pulling out all the stops amazing.

I second Donah on the notification thing. Maybe you could use RSS or twitter to send updates. Then the team will have to sign up for the updates. There for the spam is on the user through other mediums than e-mail.

You guys/girls rock! Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

@Gareth That is the exact way we are going.

Way to go!!! Adding items, especially songs, where I want them has been my secret wish. In fact, I was almost ready to e-mail and ask for it. GOOD-BYE drag and drop, or at least HELLO add ‘em where you want ‘em!!!

Thanks PCO people.

Great stuff on these last two updates. Like always, it makes me more and more excited to see what you guys will come up with next.

Here’s a thought though regarding the e-mail me for comments thing. I like the fact that you can get e-mailed when people post comments on the plan or the item. But I was wondering if it’d be possible to put a couple check boxes under the people properties for each person that says something like:
>e-mail me of all comments made under all ministries
>e-mail me of all comments made under ______ ministry
>e-mail me of all comments made under ministries I’m scheduled for.

Just thought it would cut down on redundant work… so I’m not stopping in at each of my plans and selecting for it to e-mail me of comments of that specific plan.

katiewillard #permalink

@James There’s an option for you to select to be emailed for all plans in that specific service. So really you only need to do it one time for each service in your account.

@katiewillard
I understand that. If we’re constantly creating new service plans, I would like the option to not have to worry about always trying to check the “e-mail me for comments for this plan” option.
Maybe… I can do that with the template. hmmm…. *pondering*

nvm… im with u now. it solves my problem for the meantime. :)

How about a way to generate a report of just the songs inside a specific plan? Basically, we need a songlist for the singers, giving the song names, arrangments, keys and their order…..but ONLY the songs.

Katie Willard #permalink

@Darren,

You can do a report like this with custom reports. Here is the link to our tutorial on this: http://planningcenteronline.com/home/tutorial/custom_reports.

Hey;
Great new setup…I’m wondering if you have a ‘feature request’ area.

I’d like to request a new level of permission at some point…halfway between “Scheduler” and “Editor”.

Our worship pastor has a day job that has now required him to work ‘fireman schedule’ so we had to promote 4 other worship leaders. We’d like to give them the ability to MAKE plans of songs currently in the song area, and schedule them…but not to upload files/put new songs up (for space issues).

Do you know if you have an area I can formally submit this request…or know if it’s even possible?

Thanks

@Will Thanks for your feature request! We’ll take them wherever. :) Right now this just is not possible. As of right now, we aren’t considering permission changes in the future, but we do always take suggestions into consideration. Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate hearing from our customers.

Just a note that in Opera 9.64, adding songs using the green + sign doesn’t always put the song where you expect it. Sometimes it still throws it to the bottom of the list. Sometimes it throws it above the green +sign, sometimes below the last item in the section where the sign was hit, sometimes in the next section below it. I thought that if I hit the green + sign, that would be where the new item goes, correct? I’ve had a handful of songs go where I expect them, the rest have gone all over the map. Its a great concept though!
